Historia y etnografía de Mesoamérica y América Central, estudios afro-americanos, teoría antropológica, antropología política, conflictos y violencia, pluralismo jurídico, movimientos indígenas, religiones indígenas y misiones cristianos, etnicidad y nacionalismo, desigualdad social.
